One way to honor veterans on Veteran's Day is to compose an essay, letter, or speech supporting their service and sacrifices. Here are some topic ideas for November 11.

Armistice Day (or Veteran’s Day) is celebrated annually on November 11. Many students will be asked to write an essay explaining the importance of the nation’s service men and women. Still others may need to give speeches in honor of a veteran or veterans in their communities. This article contains several compassionate speech and essay topics that can be used for Veteran’s Day.

Adolescents will gain an understanding of freedom, liberty, and what it truly means to be a veteran by doing a little bit of research and having some classroom or at home discussions about what Veteran’s Day is about. Patriotic Essay Topics, Letter to Veteran Ideas for Young Children

Young children can also honor veterans on Veteran’s Day by writing short essays or letters to veterans and local heroes. These essays do not need to be complicated or long, but simply an expression of thanks and understanding of the holiday. Here is a short list of simple patriotic-themed topics for younger kids.

  • List some of the freedoms you enjoy because of veterans.

  • Explain your feelings when you look at or think about the many names of the deceased veterans on the Vietnam memorial, or any other war memorial.

  • How could you help a disabled veteran?

Veterans and military men and women will appreciate knowing that the citizens at home support them on November 11. One way to show support and understanding is to compose a thoughtful essay about how valuable veterans’ contributions have been to the country. Community leaders can also express appreciation and compassion for veterans in a speech honoring the sacrifices of these special men and women who fought (and still fight) for freedom.
